São Paulo comedian Daniel Sartório has performed stand-up for a decade in Brazil and toured his comedy hour for the past three years. He says Brazilian comics embraced online clips early, which brought new fans into comedy clubs nationwide.
But Sartório believes those clips may now be hurting attendance and discouraging comedy discovery, as fans increasingly prefer seeing their favorite comedians to attending comedy shows for the experience. We spoke with him about how the internet helped build Brazil’s stand-up scene and why it may now work against lesser-known comics.
